The miles are endless whether you are a road cyclist or a mountain biker.
For the road cyclists….
Right out our front door we have hundreds of paved miles to mix up the terrain and effort level. All of our routes have good pavement with ample shoulder and a great mixture of hills for the aerobic/anaerobic workout and perfectly timed plateaus for recovery.
From Angel Fire you can travel south on Highway 434 (Mountain View Blvd.) to enjoy the scenic view of Black Lake ranch country. Once in Black Lake the decision brings you two totally different results, continuing on Highway 434 can bring you as far as you want to go where the downhill is exhilarating but the return trip is known as the “wall” OR you can take State Road 120 which brings you three great climbs to the end of the pavement for a return trip that would be mostly downhill.
From Angel Fire you can travel north on Highway 434 to Highway 64 to enjoy the rolling hills to Eagle Nest, one of New Mexico’s newest State Park, Eagle Nest Lake. Once in Eagle Nest you can head to Red River on Highway 38 for the Bobcat Pass hill climb and continue through Red River to Questa on to Taos and home to Angel Fire for a total mileage of 98 OR you can continue on Highway 64 as far as Raton but our favorite is to stop in Cimarron and have lunch at the St. James Hotel.
For the mountain bikers….
Right out the back door of Angel Fire and without ever loading your bike on the car, you can ride forever! The Carson National Forest is some of the most spectacular mountain biking terrain. It has great 10 mile loops for the quick morning ride or the fun evening ride when you are short on time OR you can take the South Boundary ride make it a full day of challenges and fun. And of course, you can always head to the Angel Fire Resort for a world class cross country course to increase the anaerobic threshold or test your abilities on the technical downhill course. And don’t forget the extensive greenbelt trails that are close in and wonderful for the whole family.
Angel Fire, NM is ideal for outdoor enthuasists, come and see for yourself!
